Geocaching -
What it's all about
Come to rural Spain, inland
from Malaga, for an entertaining adventure hunt!
(A GPS unit is required, but
we have one for hire if you don't have your own.)
|
 |
Quite
often, particularly in the cooler months, we have guests who like to go
hiking in the countryside around here. Always happy to help someone
else expend energy, we have been looking into geocaching. It would
seem that while we have been hidden away on our mountain top, a new leisure
pursuit has been rapidly growing: Geocaching. Formed from the
words "geography" and "cache", this new activity has been described as "an
entertaining adventure game for GPS users".
In short, it involves finding a
hidden cache using the location coordinates with your GPS.
Caches of all types have been hidden by enthusiasts all over the world
and, luckily for us, some not so far from here! Sites in this area
vary in suitability - some for all the family to enjoy and some are only for more adventurous
individuals. |
|
 |
Caches vary, but the most
basic is traditionally a waterproof box containing a log book and pen. Often
there is a "prize" for you to take away (in which case you must leave
something for the next person), or perhaps the start of a treasure hunt.
